Will Windows 7 Price Drop Significantly Later In The Year?

Hi,
After the release date, will Windows 7 full install discs (not upgrade discs) price drop much later in the year? Or will it most likely stay constant?

In the past, now versions of Windows have usually taken a year to a year and a half before there is any drop in their price. But that is not to say that you will not be able to find online stores offering it for a lower price earlier. Or get it from sites like e-bay where people who do not want Windows 7 are selling off their OEM disk for less.
But as Windows 7 is still several weeks away from release, it is unlikely that its price will drop significantly yet this year.

Yes. Google has recently announced its Chrome OS, and there will be definitely be a tough competition in the OS market. The release date of Chrome is supposed to be in 2010. So Microsoft might actually drop its rates so as to gain market.

technology is like a car once its sold its worth less. and regardless if you just wait it will cost much less. but then of course its not the newest model anymore. it will come down, but it wont be “cheap” get your hands on the beta so you can just buy an upgrade

  4. it will drop after some time.but not soon, maybe next year.
now is a good time to buy. they have sales on windows 7,if you order it now.
I’m buying windows 7,but I’m waiting for a review about it. I’m hoping its better than vista.

  5. The big upgrade pre-order was likely the best deal.
They might come out with things like family packs that include multiple licenses at a bit of a discount (just a rumor right now), but otherwise I wouldn’t expect much if any drop, at least for awhile.

+It’s difficult to say. They just had it on sale for 50% for people who pre-purchase prior to the release in October. I don’t know if they are going to make another offer like that.

Well, it’s already promised to be less than what Vista was. I’d say it will probably decrease proportionately as with all of the previous editions of Windows.

If you pre order now you can get it for $50 in alot of places.
Sorry I lied. The preorder price ended over the weekend.

  9. The RRP will remain constant but individual retailers will surely have their own special deals to stimulate sales
