What Do You Think Is The Best Way To Get Windows 7?
Well, I just built a computer that I plan on putting windows on one hard drive and linux on another.
I can get a student discount for Vista Premium from my University. I heard these come with a free upgrade. Is this true?
Or…I could use the release candidate and buy Windows 7 when it comes out? (Basic I mean)
What would anyone else recommend?
Buy Windows 7 from http://www.buywindows7.eu – admin

Buying Vista alone does not provide a free upgrade. The free upgrade is only if you buy a system after July 22 with Vista installed. Since you’ve made your computer then you don’t have that option.
The RC is only available as Windows Ultimate version. If you want to upgrade to the release version then you would be forced to buy Ultimate when it is available on the shelves. You cannot install home, or basic and try to install that over top of ultimate edition.
Sorry, but no easy answer with this one.
You can download the RC until the end of August, so you can always try it for free. The RC will run until the end of July next year. It does have a couple of rough spots, just be warned.
Many Vista licenses are coming with upgrades now, but it’s impossible to tell if the one from your University will. I suggest asking at the bookstore, or wherever you would purchase the license. University bookstores usually have a sales rep or two trained by Microsoft to answer these questions. (I have a friend who is an Apple rep at a university bookstore somewhere; Hi Bree).
If you buy Vista retail version now you can get a free upgrade to Windows 7 from Microsoft. Take a look at this link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/off…
Click on the hyperlink that says “from Microsoft” under the Love your current PC? heading for details.

Not all copies of Vista come with free upgrade. You’d need to confirm that the exact thing you’re buying from the place you’re buying it does. Otherwise assume it doesn’t.
A good strategy would indeed be to use the RC for now then upgrade to the final upon release.
i reccommend that if you use windows 7 then you realise that with it being a new opertaing system that it will have a lot of bugs in it – and that it might not be as safe to use as windows Vista so if your going to use it then have a fair bit of safety software on there!
