If I Upgrade My Computer From Vista To Windows 7 Will I Encounter Problems With Some Programs?

I upgraded my computer to Vista and every time I logged in it gave me the blue screen of death. So I had to reformat my computer to install Vista. Is there a possibility that this could happen by upgrading Vista to Windows 7 (RC Build 7100)? Because I heard that Windows 7 is backward compatible with XP and Vista which would mean there wouldn’t be problems. Help please?

  1. You should be able to upgrade acceptably from Vista to Windows 7, but should back up anything critical first since the software remains in development and could well still run into a compatibility issue or something similar with something specific you have installed.
If it’s not a big deal for you to do backups and fresh install, that may be safer. Microsoft has recently made posts encouraging people to upgrade from Vista and provide feedback, however, as that seems to be something they’re attempting to thoroughly test with the upcoming Release Candidate.
There have not been many reports of Windows 7 doing the BSOD under any circumstance thus far.

You may have a worse problem when Microsoft times it out in August and the machine locks. You will then need to buy a licence for it at maximum retail just to be able to use the machine.

You should not ahve that problem with Windows 7. It is more stable and require far less resources than Vista.
