How Do I Get My Data Back After Installing Windows 7 Beta?

I recentely dowloaded Windows 7 Ultimate Beta. It got rid of all my data and started my computer from scratch. I want to know If I reinstall XP Back and do a system restore point will this bring all my data back?

  1. Nope, it will make it worse! Your DATA has already been over written once, if you reinstall XP then the DATA will be over written twice…. Never to be retrieved!!!!
Try this program to get some of your files back…http://www.recuva.com/
It might find some of them…. If it dose back them up to DVD!!! Then Reinstall XP…

  2. Some data recovery software may be able to find things on your disk as it is right now.
If you try to go back to XP you’ll just be writing over things even more and increasing your odds of losing things. You also lost all prior system restore points when you did Windows 7 from scratch.
You can run software like Recuva to see what it finds, but there are good odds you’ve lost everything with a fresh install of the OS. You should always do backups before installing a new operating system, especially a beta one. (But being beta has nothing to do with it in this case.)
Anyway, no, reinstalling XP back will do nothing to help you recover your data. It can only make it worse at this stage.

    Hello awsomedee,
Let me explain the problem and then answer your question.
Your hard drive shares data on a circular disc. It is a very unique process how it pushes data onto this thin disc. When you uninstall an operating system, you are literally clearing the disc and starting new again. The data at this point is very easy to get again.
When you install a new operating system, you are cover over the old data. However, it is very easy to still get some files that were from the old install.
When you format yet again, and then reinstall the older windows, you have almost covered up the old files from the original install. This is how those “data clearing tools” work to remove files for good.
You might be very lucky to get some of the files if you use a data recovery software to get them. They may make it to use as a floppy drive or a CD where you can run at bootup. If you have already installed the new operating system, I would say your chances are very low most of your files are still there.
To answer the question, use some data recovery software on the internet (there is some that is free with nag screen) and pull your files this way.
I do wish you the best of luck! You never know what you might find!
