If i have windows vista 32bit can i get a free 64bit windows 7? I do know i get a free windows 7 32bit but can i change it to a 64bit instead? or will 32bit be ok for my computer? I heard 32bit was the problem. i have a hp g60-428CA notebook.

“i have windows vista 32bit” Which version of Vista???
“I heard 32bit was the problem.” NOT true, the 64bit version of Vista, and W7 will likely be the same, is the one with way too many ongoing “device driver issues”.
“When you buy Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate either as a packaged product or on a qualifying PC you can get a COMPARABLE upgrade version of Windows 7 after it’s generally available on October 22, 2009.”
“COMPARABLE ” means Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32 bit. The following is from Acer’s website:
“Can I upgrade Windows Vista® to a different edition or language of Windows® 7?
No. Cross language, edition, and architecture are NOT supported. For example, you cannot go from Windows Vista® Home Premium English to Windows® 7 Home Premium Japanese; you cannot go from Windows Vista® Business to Windows® 7 Ultimate; and you cannot go from 32-bit to 64-bit.”
You only are possibly eligible for a free upgrade if you purchased since June 26.
If you’re eligible they might just send you the 32-bit discs, or it’s possible they’ll send you discs with both 32-bit and 64-bit in which case you can choose what to install.
You shouldn’t have any problems with 32-bit. 64-bit can just take better advantage of RAM over 4GB and a few other things. But 32-bit is less likely to have compatibility issues.
sierraporsche and the others are correct in that you cannot upgrade from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Windows 7. You would indeed need to do a clean install. You should check in with HP on whether they would be willing to give you the 64-bit version.
Also before deciding you should make sure your computer is capable of running 64-bit Windows 7. This article explains how to do this and will answer your other 32-bit to 64-bit questions: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows…

No, you can upgrade from 32-bit Vista to 32-bit Win7, or from 64-bit Vista to 64-bit Win7.
Your only option is to backup your data files and do a complete install on Win7.
My personal opinion? I would do a complete install anyway – It’s always better with a clean, fresh system.
You can’t upgrade a 32 bit operating system to a 64 bit. They are incompatible. You can, however, format your hard drive and installing 64 bit from scratch. HP isn’t going to give you Windows 7 64 Bit though, you’re gonna have to buy it if you want it.
No, you can only get the upgrade to whatever version you already have. Otherwise, you have to pay.
Not sure what you mean by 32 bit being the problem. 32 bit is the same as 64 bit. 64 bit only have extended hardware support.
